How to Find the Best All-Inclusive Vacation Deals (Without Getting Burned)
You've seen the ads: "5 nights all-inclusive in Cancun from $799!" Then you click, add your dates, add a second person, add flights, and suddenly the price has tripled. All-inclusive deals are real, but finding them takes a little know-how. Here's how to spot a true bargain.
Quick answer: The best all-inclusive deals come from traveling outside peak weeks, booking early, comparing what's actually included, and watching for perks like free nights, resort credits or kids stay free. A travel advisor can often add extras and watch for price drops after you book.
1. Pick your timing wisely
Most expensive: Christmas, New Year's, Presidents' Day week and spring break.
Sweet spots: Late April to early June, and early December before the holidays.
Lowest prices: Late summer and fall, which overlaps with hurricane season. Travel insurance is a must if you go then.
2. Know which promotions are worth it
Free nights (stay 7, pay 5) can save more than a percentage discount.
Kids stay free deals are gold for families.
Resort credits sound great, but read the rules. Many only apply to spa services with a minimum spend.
Room upgrades to ocean view or swim-up suites can be the best value perk of all.
3. Compare what "all-inclusive" really means
Two resorts with the same price can offer very different value. Before you book, check:
Are à la carte restaurants included, and do they need reservations?
Are premium liquors and room service included?
Are airport transfers included?
Are taxes, resort fees and gratuities in the price?
What's the beach and pool situation for your travel month?
4. Don't ignore the flights
From St. Louis, nonstop flights to Cancun and a few Caribbean destinations are common, while others need a connection. A resort that's cheaper but requires two connecting flights may cost you a full vacation day each way. Package deals that bundle air and hotel can sometimes beat booking separately.
5. Watch the price after you book
Prices change often. If a better promotion comes out before final payment, your booking may be adjustable. This is where a travel advisor earns their keep. I watch my clients' bookings and ask for adjustments when prices drop.

Is all-inclusive worth it? If you plan to eat and drink at the resort most of the time, almost always.
How far ahead should I book? Six to twelve months for holidays and spring break; three to six months for other times.
