How Much Does a 7-Night Caribbean Cruise Really Cost in 2027?

Quick answer: On a mainstream cruise line, plan on about $1,500 to $2,500 per person for a 7-night Caribbean cruise once you add taxes, gratuities, drinks, Wi-Fi and excursions. The advertised fare is often only half to two-thirds of what you will actually spend.

One of the first questions every client asks me is, "How much is this really going to cost?" It is a smart question. Cruise fares look low on purpose. Here is what goes into the real number, so there are no surprises on the last night.

1. The cruise fare

Your fare covers your cabin, main dining room meals, the buffet, most entertainment and pools. On mainstream lines like Carnival, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and MSC, typical 7-night Caribbean fares run about:

  • Inside cabin: $500 to $800 per person

  • Balcony cabin: $800 to $1,300 per person

New ships, summer weeks and holidays cost more. Older ships and fall sailings cost less.

2. Taxes and port fees (required)

Expect roughly $100 to $220 per person on a 7-night Caribbean cruise. These are shown at checkout, so always compare quotes with taxes included.

3. Gratuities (required on most lines)

Most lines add a daily gratuity for every guest, children included. Current standard-cabin rates:

MSC

Royal Caribbean

$129.50

Norwegian

A family of four on Royal Caribbean pays about $518 in gratuities for one week. My cruise gratuities guide covers this in detail.

4. Drinks (optional, but most people spend here)

Water, iced tea, lemonade and basic coffee are free. Soda, specialty coffee, beer, wine and cocktails are not. Cocktails run about $13 to $15 each. Alcohol drink packages usually cost $70 to $110 per person, per day, plus an 18% to 20% service charge. My drink package guide helps you decide if one is worth it.

5. Wi-Fi (optional)

Wi-Fi typically costs about $13 to $35 per device, per day depending on the line and plan. Carnival is among the cheapest. Royal Caribbean's plans are on the higher end.

6. Shore excursions (optional)

Budget about $75 to $150 per person per port for a cruise-line excursion. Beach days and walking around town can cost far less. My SIX18 Voyages port guides show you what to do in each port on your own.

7. Getting to the ship

From the St. Louis area, this is a real line item. You can drive to New Orleans or Galveston, or fly to Florida and stay a night before. My guide to cruising from St. Louis compares those options.

Sample budget: couple, 7-night Western Caribbean, balcony

That is about 1.8 times the advertised fare, before getting to the port.

How to lower your total cost

  • Book during wave season for perks like free gratuities or onboard credit.

  • Sail in fall. September through early December fares are often much lower.

  • Prepay gratuities to lock in today's rate before increases.

  • Skip the drink package if you drink fewer than five or six drinks a day.

  • Work with a travel advisor. I compare total cost, not just fares, and watch for price drops. It costs you nothing extra.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a 7-day cruise cost for a family of four? Usually about $4,000 to $8,000 all-in, depending on the line, cabin and how much you spend onboard.

What is included in the cruise fare? Your cabin, main dining, buffet, most shows, pools and kids' clubs.

Are port fees included in the price? They are added at checkout and appear on your quote, so always compare prices with taxes included.

Do kids pay gratuities? On most lines, yes, at the full daily rate.

Want the real price of your cruise, all in? I'll build a quote with every cost included so you can compare cruise lines side by side. Request your free cruise quote or call or text (618) 772-9206.
